  • use a buddy system
  • have printouts on paper available to read from
  • email the student the information they need for when they do get their laptops back
  • borrow from library or tech room if that's a system that's available in your school
  • go to library/computer lab
  • use pen drives...students can hand in assignments on pen drive/ use dropbox...anything on the Cloud

  • plug in laptop
  • keep charger with you
  • swap dead battery for an extra one that's already charged





battery is dead in remote
  • have spare batteries
  • use buttons on the hardware (if you need to use chair do it when students aren't in the room)



too many wires so you can't tell what goes to what
students try to help but there are too many

  • be organized, label your cable
  • practice ahead of time...get their early
  • student help is good
  • have one student at a time
  • ask who has had experience with this
  • everyone stay in their seat and have students come up one at a time
  • utilize tech teams
  • have backup activity or rearrange what you were going to do while you wait


students accidentally see your email/gradebook/ when going on the projector
  • be aware of what's on your screen before you put it on projector
  • for Mac software backdrop; similar for Windows; covers everything on your screen
  • use multiple desktops so you control what goes on the screen




websites disappear
server for wiki/blog/etc is down so you/students can't upload
internet doesn't work
  • save contact info so you can let them know
  • turn off wifi connection and then turn it back on and see if it works
  • put website in "reading list" in Safari or a copy of a Webpage when you find it so you have a hard copy on your laptop
  • take a screenshot of the part you really want
  • work from a backup copy of your wikispace/blog/etc





DVD case is there but not the DVD
video on youtube was taken down
VCR doesn't work (nor the backup)

  • when you find it download the video on your laptop (browser add-on, website,...)
  • check the library; other teachers
  • have additional backup video ready
  • vimeo instead of youtube (or teachertube)
